Create multiple PDF documents from a single scan

Can anyone tell me of any software that will allow me to scan hundreds of pages in a single batch and then select groups of thumbnails (preferably) and save each group as a separate PDF document?

I've broken your question down into 3 sections to make it clearer. I presume that you want an off the shelf product and not a developer component.

You want to:

  • Scan hundreds of pages to PDF (or an image format) in an automated process
  • Select groups of thumbnails of the scanned files
  • Save each selected group of files as one PDF file

Yes, it's possible:

  1. Get a scanner that has an Automatic Document Feeder.
  2. Use the scanners built-in scan to PDF software.
  3. Open the folder that contains the scanned files and change the view settings so that you can see thumbnails.
  4. Find software (Acrobat, Nitro PDF, etc) that lets you right-click on files in a folder and merge them into one PDF.

It's fairly straight forward, but it will obviously require a bit of mouse clicking as you'll need to manually group the files that you want to merge.
