If you try to copy text from a PDF file but all you get when you paste the copied text into a text file is rectangles, it's usually a sign that the cmap for the file has in some way been corrupted.
Generally speaking if Adobe Reader can't help you to copy text from a PDF, then there's something seriously wrong with the PDF.
The link to the PDF file is no longer there. If you could re-post it then I can run some tests.
