When printing only get the option to print to file even though the print window shows another printer which is available and shown on the print page.

So you have a PDF open in Acrobat 9 and you're trying to print it, but the only printing option you see in the drop down menu where you select the printer, is a "Print To File" option, is that correct?
Can you provide the list of all printers available on the machine and perhaps a screenshot of the print dialog in Acrobat 9?

Rowan, Printers on system are several Brother HL-5150Ds and a HP designjet 500 plotter.
I have included a screen showing sequence. Selected printer is same as default printer setting.
