Win 7 Pro / IE8 & Acrobat 9 Std - using the right click/print preview to print to PDF

Running Win 7 Pro 32 bit and Acrobat Std 9. I am trying to print webpages to pdf from IE8. Right click>print preview>landscape/90%>print>Select PDF printer>Save PDF file as…then everything freezes.

This works with a new install of Win 7 Pro and Acrobat 9 Std prior to any updates/upgrades (Win 7 Pro). However, when I update/upgrade Win & Pro, my computer becomes a brick…again.

I talked to a number of people about this and discovered they too use this process of printing to PDF in IE 8 and are concerned about not being able to save pdfs in IE8.

I think the problem lies with MS Windows 7/IE8 updates/patches. Any thoughts?

I can confirm that I'm experiencing the same freezing problem when follow the steps you've outlined. I'm using Internet Explorer 8.0.7600.16385 and Windows 7 Ultimate (6.1.7600 Build 7600). When I tried the same steps using FireFox 3.5.7, the problem did not occur.

I found that using a different PDF printer driver (i.e. not Adobe's and in this case Nitro PDF) worked correctly.

Ok, not really an answer, but an otherwise obvious follow-up to yours.

Rowan...your solution works assuming we have a "different PDF printer driver."

Personally, I'm not overly inclined to obtain another driver to make the program operate as it should "out of the box."

Any idea if Adobe is aware of this glitch and more importantly, working on a fix? I tried getting the answer out of Adobe...I emphasize the word "tried."

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit, IE8 (latest, fully patched), and Acrobat 9 Standard (latest, fully patched). Same behavior -- freezes when attempting to use Adobe PDF Printer after using Print Preview. I have found however that if I select "Print..." from the IE8 printer dropdown that PDF Printer works reliably. This problem has been around for quite awhile ... does anyone at Adobe know or care?
