Has anyone encountered the issue when creating a PDF file, it leaves off the extension and makes a photoshop file? How do I change the settings to tell it I want a PDF?

The problem: when I open a PDF the language is all gibberish. What should the settings be set to? I use Windows 2007 XPÂ Pro. All PDFs are now opening with this issue. It somehow arrived just a few hours ago.
